THE SITUATION 
Twelve districts, one deluge
Relentless monsoon rains and rising water levels in the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have left large parts of Upper Assam underwater. Roads, embankments and vital public infrastructure have been damaged, cutting off access to transport, safe drinking water and healthcare. As families face growing hardship, the threat of water-borne diseases is increasing, making urgent support more critical than ever.
More than 56,600 hectares of cropland have been submerged, wiping out food stocks and livelihoods for families already living on thin margins. Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat alone account for over 6.63 lakh of the people affected. Women, children, older persons, people with disabilities and daily-wage labourers are bearing the heaviest impact.

Plan India's Emergency Response Team has prioritised Nazira and Gourisagar blocks of Sivasagar district,
among the worst-hit in Assam, and is working to reach 3,000 of the most vulnerable flood-affected households.
Every family we reach receives:
Non-Food Item (NFI) Kit
- Shelter kit – tarpaulin and essentials for emergency repair
- Water kit for safe drinking water
- Kitchen/utensil kit to replace what floodwaters destroyed
- Hygiene Kit (Toiletries, Sanitary Napkins and so on)
Dry Ration Kit
- A nutritious food basket to replace lost food stocks like Rice, Atta (Wheat Flour), Dal (Yellow), Arahar/Tur, Chana Salt, Sugar, Mustar Oil, Groundnut Seeds (Mungafli) and Soya.
Education Kit
- Stationary, school bags, immuno booster, and so on.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes. All contributions to Plan India are eligible for 50% tax exemption under Section 80(G) of the Income Tax Act. Receipts are emailed to donors within 36 days of donation.
Plan India deploys over 80% of funds raised towards programme objectives; no more than 20% goes to administration, marketing and communication - well within global and national norms.
Plan India's Emergency Response Team has prioritised Nazira and Gourisagar blocks of Sivasagar district for immediate relief, aiming to reach 3,000 of the most vulnerable flood-affected households with dry ration, hygiene and NFI (shelter, water and kitchen) kits, plus education kits for children, within two months of the response being funded.
Plan India meets all statutory compliances set by the Government of India. Donor-funded projects undergo regular third-party evaluation and audit, and donors are welcome to review accounts or visit programmes.
