Chali, is a beautiful village lush with green shrubs that cover most of Rajasthan. Home to 414 households, Chali is divided into different hamlets with the tribal community living separately from the other casts. The livelihood of most people in the village depends on agriculture and goat rearing.

While on paper Chali seems to be a place filled with rural bliss, the reality is a bit different. Regressive practices like ‘bride price’ are followed by the locals, where money and gifts are given to the bride’s family. This turns the bride into a commodity that is bought and then exploited by the groom’s family.

The lack of proper education has also lead oppressive systems like casteism and sexism to prevail. The village panchayat is run mostly by upper caste men, leaving the women and children in a despair.

The village has basic amenities like an anganwadi, a primary and a senior secondary school.

But the infrastructure is in poor shape across all of them.

In the past Plan India and our partner organisations have set up a non-formal education centre called, Shiksha Kendra. It is attended by 47 children, including 20 girls. We have also begun the training of village health workers, which was followed by training of traditional birth attendant (TBA). A safe drinking water initiative was implemented to enhance access of clean drinking water.

While we are on the right track to improve Chali’s situation, we still have a long way to go. Support  Chali and help us help the village reach its full potential.
