In the tough terrains of Jharkhand lies Lara village. Surrounded by trees and rich in natural beauty, it is a popular picnic destination for people from the neighbouring areas. The village consists of 306 households and a total population of 1805. Lara has a middle school, an Anganwadi and a health-sub centre. Since the colleges & universities are far away, students are not willing to go for higher education after completing Class 10th. In the last few years, Plan India has done some important work in the Lara village. We have developed ‘Buniyad class rooms’ and constructed hand washing stations and toilets in the schools.
But the lack of infrastructure is not Lara’s biggest challenge, it faces issues of child trafficking too. In 2018, Plan India members helped rescue two girls from a human trafficking ring. Due to a lack of awareness and education, girls still fall prey to such practices. Plan India is working in Lara for a few years now, but Lara needs more support to grow and progress. Career counselling camps for the older students, awareness and capacity building in adolescent girls regarding personal hygiene & MHM and running water for the Anganwadi are just some necessities on the long list. We need your help, so that Lara is not just recognised for its natural beauty but for its progress and growth.
