Toms shes giving project

Plan India launched TOMS Shoe "Giving Project" in Mayurbhanj district. There is already a connection with the local government institutions and district level administration which enables Plan India to potentially reach many more children in the district. In this context, we have provided shoes to 1,50,000 children in the district. The project is being implemented keeping the following objectives in mind.

  • To promote and ensure quality education;
  • To minimise the dropout rate in schools;
  • To develop healthy and hygienic practices amongst children.

In order to achieve these objectives, Plan India has started the operation in close collaboration with the district administration, education department, Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and community leaders.

By the time the first round, shoe distribution was done in 1,598 schools of 26 blocks in the district. Through this process 1,05,470 numbers of school going children of class – VI, VII and VIII benefited by receiving one pair of shoes. Again, the organisation started distribution of shoes to the underprivileged children of two communities, i.e., Thakurmunda and Kaptipada block. In this way, 42,062 numbers of children benefited by receiving shoes through community distribution.
