Cyclone Vardha battered the coastal states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The tropical cyclone made landfall on Dec 12 near Chennai with wind speeds topping 130 kmph. Houses have been wrecked, many are without electricity and have lost their belongings. Heavy rainfall was also recorded in the aftermath.
More than 7,000 homes have been damaged, nearly 14,000 people have been evacuated and over 10,000 electrocity poles and 800 transformers have been wrecked.
Plan India's Response
To support the on-going humanitarian relief efforts, Plan India and its local NGO partners will provide:
Additionally, Child Friendly Spaces are being set up in the relief camps to keep children safe and ensure they are being taken care of while their parents seek government relief.
Appeal for Support
Plan India requests your support to aid our disaster response efforts in South India. It is important that relief materials reach affected families and communities at the earliest. Children and families are in urgent need of basic amenities like food and water.
Funds are needed to provide relief kits to 2,000 of the most affected families, costing Rs. 6,000/family. We will also support 500 families in shelter reconstruction including toilets and water supply costing Rs. 2 lakh/household.
Your timely support will be critical in bringing much needed relief especially to children, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
All donations are eligible for availing 50% tax exemption u/s 80 G(5) of the Income Tax Act, 1961
