Sant Ravidas Nagar District (Aurai Block)

Plan is operational in 34 villages of Aurai block covering around 6,000 families and a population of around 50,000 people. The project area is well known for its internationally popular carpet industry. The area is facing serious problems related to child labour and their health issues.

The population of the Sant Ravidas Nagar district is about 1.3 million, with average size of family being eight persons. A significant percentage of scheduled caste population (22% of the district population) lives in this district. Only 58% of the total population is literate and 45% females being literate. The sex ratio is 917 females against 1,000 males. The child population, between the age group 0-14 years is 6,16,037 while the adult population is 14,20,226. About 45% families live in semi-permanent and temporary houses. The coverage of government health and education services is very poor. Out of 1,097 villages only 229 have medical facilities and 502 have government schools.

Key achievements

  • 1,338 expectant mothers were given proper ante-natal care for safe deliveries.
  • 734 children under two years of age have been fully immunised.
  • The number of children prevented from malnutrition is 326.
  • 1,938 new-borns received their birth certificate.
  • 18 schools have declared themselves violence free.
  • 60 women have been helped to work their way out of poverty through SHGs.
