How does Plan make a difference?
Plan's active support for child development over a long period of time aims to improve the healthy development of children from before birth, through safe delivery, preschool care and development, primary and secondary education, to an adulthood in which they can be valuable and productive members of their community.

Plan works to overcome the barriers that prevent children from breaking out of the poverty cycle. Its advocacy initiatives are aligned to child rights as laid down by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. By involving children and seeking their views at every stage of program design, implementation and evaluation, Plan ensures that children play an active role in their own growth. Plan while providing immediate relief also works with the community the children are in, an approach we call “Child Centered Community Development,” because we believe that no child exists in isolation, but is part of a larger community and hence to bring a change in the life of the child a change in the community is a must. To have a long-term impact on the lives of children efforts are made to ensure children their rights through awareness raising and support for educational and vocational training. Across Plan’s projects a common theme is participation and children having a voice of their own.

What will Plan do with my funds?

Plan runs various programs to work with children in difficult circumstances. These programs essentially focus on education, health care, nutrition and shelter. We also enroll children in Child media programs and ensure their participation in the innovative programs to empower them so that they can voice their opinions. Stress is also on preventive measures like disaster preparedness in disaster prone areas, prevention of child labor and instances of street children, prevention and inclusion of HIV affected children, etc. The money that you contribute will go towards these programs.

How do I ensure that my donation is utilized properly?
Plan is very transparent on its costs. To assure complete transparency to our donors/stakeholders you are free to check our accounts and/or visit programs. Accounts and programs are audited regularly and strict guidelines on finances are maintained as per Plan International global standards at all times.

How much of my money goes towards Plan’s development projects?

On average, 80% of the money raised by Plan goes towards planning and implementing our program work and 20 % goes towards marketing and administration.

Does Plan India get funds from any other source than individuals?

In India we have been working on getting funds from corporates and also various funding institutions. These funds are used for specific issues/programs. For instance, Nokia, Cushman & Wakefield, HSBC, Citibank and Flextronics are supporting our work in tsunami-affected areas, Carlsons in specific programs run by Plan India and institutions like DIFID, Global Fund, UNAIDS & UNODC in HIV/ AIDS intervention of Plan.

How does Plan identify the programs and areas to work in?

Projects are supported based on Plan’s identified areas of work and priority needs that align with Plan’s vision and mission through thorough need assessment studies. The projects are identified based on their innovativeness and capacity to change children’s lives through involvement of the community members as well as the children themselves. The assessment of prospective partners through partner assessment tools is also taken up to ensure that project objectives are met and benefits reach those for whom they are intended.

Why can’t I know the child I support?
Plan follows strict guidelines on child protection. Since we work with children in difficult circumstances and hence a very vulnerable section of children we cannot reveal the identity of the child to you. In all our communication material we do not use the real name or the picture of the child. Also, all visitors to our programs and all employees at Plan are made to sign and agree to our child protection policies.

What information is sent to the donor?
We send communication material every quarter to the donors. Be it a feedback form, updating or sharing success stories from Plan’s work operation.

Are the contributions tax-exempt?
Yes, all contributions to Plan India are eligible for 50% tax exemption under Section 80(G) of the Income Tax Act.
