The basis of Plan’s work lies in its commitment to the principle of equality and rights, developing the capacity of civil society to enable them to meet their needs and replicating successful models that have worked. Plan facilitates participatory processes especially participation of children and youth in the development process. This can be seen at all levels - identifying issues, designing child friendly programs and even monitoring the programs through social audit.
‘Children have something to say’ is one such example of Plan’s work, a project that provides children with the innovative media of film making to genuinely express their issues and concerns to adults. These films are conceptualized, researched, scripted, planned, shot and produced by children. The project started in the year 2000 and trained over 300 children through 19 workshops of 20 days each in 7 states producing 36 films over 3 years. 52 such films had been produced by 2006.
